• Mim how are you doing? I see you had a birthday recently. Miss seeing all those bright flower pictures you always posted.

    Max

  • HELLO HELLO. Finally got a new password and need to check on all of you.

Sure has been a very quiet board.

First off, Cedar how are you doing now? Did you get caught in that last snowstorm?

How are you doing Judy...Doreen...Doris? See someone new here, Hi to Shelly. If you need some help with glass this is the gal. Hello Helen, know you and DH have settled into new housing. Beachgirl are you still out there?? Where are you now?

Hi to anyone I missed. Let me tell you sure glad 2013 is over with. Not a good year for poor DH. He is getting around so much better now and taking P/T three times a week. I am still hot on the trail of coffee mugs.

Be safe to all and hope someone pops back in.

    Max

  • Afternoon. Do I hear the rattling of candy wrappers? We didn't have many little trick or treaters this year. Our little dog really enjoyed the ones that came to door.

Looks like everyone busy again. Going to take the country quite a while to settle down after that storm.
    Max

  • Good evening ladies. Glad we are finding all our friends safe, maybe a little windblown and damp. The evening news certainly showed some unbelieveable areas out East. Wonder if some areas will ever rebuild. We go to Biloxi to casinos along the coast, and lots of things never rebuilt there.

Judy, thinking about you and hope news a little more hopeful for you and family.

Sorting dishes and getting things into plastic tubs. Keep marking things for a YS. We are across the street from a private school so only have YS on a Sat.

Love to look at glass board. What a wonderful bunch with all their knowledge. I study every picure/link they post.

Stay warm and safe out there. Lots of people sitting in the dark.

    Max

  • Judy, sorry about the bad news about your brother.

What is with some of the new uniforms that teams are coming up with?

Looks like landfall getting close. Stay safe.

    Max

  • Doreen, sounds like you and I should get together for a game of golf.

Helen, I do not belong to GB, but gal with ugly looking pr. of birds she was asking about...think they are Guinna hens. My Mother had them all over the place.

Looks like Sandy is picking up some strength. Hope everyone is all settled in best they can be, and be very careful out there.

Have been out shopping for medicare gap insurance. Second meeting I have been to.

Have to get some more plastic tubs to store some of my dishes.

Checking to see if anyone besides Doreen out there.

    Max

  • Good morning. Just checking to see if everyone all tucked in for the latest storms.

Helen made interesting point on so much going on in the weather department. I sit here and think of someone here or there and wonder if they are safe.

We are actually supposed to get down to 72 on Tues. will be a relief.

They had a set of restaurant ware at 50% off so I just had to bring them home. Maker is Mayer and some unusual pieces.

Time to tear the Sunday paper apart, and see what kind of coupons just might be in it.

    Max

  • Good morning, just checking to see if anyone has drifted in.

We are watching a late hurricane mess up the East coast. We will get some wind and rain squalls. Hope it swings further out to sea.

Off to see if we missed anything in the thrifts, a nice produce market tomorrow. I can not believe the price of apples.

    A good day to all.
    Max

  • Good morning.

Doris I am like you and check the board almost every day. Guess I will start saying HI, even if no one else around.

Have company for a few days and my feet are starting to ache from all the shopping.

All this wk-end football getting hard on the TV tuner. To bad it all seems to be something on two or three stations and I never record programs.

Went into thrift shop and saw sign showing area for cookbooks. Must have been around a 100 of them on long shelf, and about 90 were for microwave cooking.

Our yard looked so bare and we were only house along street without yard decorations. Got a big bat to hang from palm tree and a handsome witch to put out. Have about given up on saving the candy. Second time I have filled candy dish and company enjoying it. Little ones better hurry up and get here.

Hope everyone OK and just busy with their daily chores.

    Max

  • Good morning, haven't seen anyone around for a few days.

They are saying we are going to have a few pleasant days, lower humidity over the wk-end.

Thinking about all the books I go through in a year. I loved the Nancy Drew books when I was young. My GD is a reader, and it was always Harry Potter. My DD never reads a book, and there were no interesting books for young people when she was growing up. If you don't enjoy reading the classics hard to get interested.

Looks like the weather just can't calm down. Hope everyons staying safe.

    Max

  • Good morning everyone.

Helen you certainly keep busy. When I see all the problems that pop up I know why I let my DD list for us!!

Went out hunting yesterday. Found a tumbler with ad for A.C.L. Railroad from Haines City,Fla. Need to check out more on RR. Also a neat cup from North Pole, Alaska. Always fun to find advertising.

Made that pot of chili yesterday. Must have waited to long, just not hungry for it after thinking about it for couple of wks.

Must be some kind of cable war going on down here. Flooded with mailers and even having them come to house with their newest "bundles" only somehow they seem to change after signing up for them.

Mim, what a great picture of those beautiful horses.

Hope all doing OK, and keeping busy.

    Max

  • Good morning. Why do people always seem to feel so much better when there is sunshine.

Found a couple of Holiday Inn advertising ashtrays. Pleasantly surprised at what they are listing them for. I know...what one lists for and what one gets all a different story!

Anyone here a Dick Francis book fan? Finished one of his older ones, Risk, and was very good. As many of his as I have read I am always surprised when I come across something I haven't read before.

Was in some of the larger stores over the wk-end. Watching the younger kids and feeling so sorrry for them as they pawed through $20. and higher ready made Halloween costumes. I can remember the excitement of putting together a trick or treat costume. Sometimes even had to borrow something from neighbors to make it just right. Everyone joined in the fun.

Took doggie off to be groomed and stopped at grocery store. Picked up ingredients for a big pot of chili.

Hope it is a good day for everyone. Remember what doesn't get done today will be there for tomorrow.

    Max

  • Mim, I miss all the festivals. Always went to the ones around our area, had to get up awfully early to get any of those Amish baked goodies. Have never learned how to make raisin pie like they do. Your family get together sounds wonderful.

Judy are you going to S. Bend? If so, the campus should be beautiful unless wind has blown all the leaves off trees.

Doreen how is DD doing with her golf game? Laughing at all our friends heading down here...to cold to play golf any more in MI.

Hope those high gas prices aren't going to last long.

Hi to all out there lurking. Looks like the blankets are coming out, even under 90 here today.

    Max

  • Good evening everyone.

    Judy...of course I am a Colts fan!!!

It would break my heart to have to throw away a book. Have found some peole to swap paperbacks with. I guess I read more mysteries then most. I read for the simple enjoyment. Sometimes two wks. later I couldn't tell you who wrote some of them. Love the old cookbooks, especially the church ones. Think my favorite is a Quaker one from my home town in Indiana.

Still having very good luck out at the thrifts and GW stores.

DD telling me it is getting bad already up north. Bet it is going to be a bad winter.

Mim, I saw you had posted on another chat board, so glad things going well.

Hello to all out there, will keep checking to see if anyone shows up here.

    Max

  • Good morning, to anyone that might be lurking out there.

Lou, a Happy Birthday to you. Hope things going well. See it has been a long time since you have been in to visit.

Judy, always like to hear what you are up to. Speaking of butter chips, I found you will come across some larger then size you posted. They were used to put over top of your coffeecup/mug to keep your coffee warm. I collect tea leaf ironstone and stumbled across some, and worth quite a bit more then butter chips.

Helen, I see you asking about your "fish" mugs. Have never seen that pattern in any of my restaurantware books. Finding that those companies must have made patterns for every little cafe out there. Shenango is one I look for, and so many stray patterns show up.

Still having warm weather down here. Miss seeing those fall colors.

Hope all doing well. Mim check to see if you posting anywhere.

    Max

  • Afternoon everyone. Hope everyone had a good wk-end. Think fall is in the air in some parts of the country.

Doreen, is your Mother with you or do you have to go to her house? I am sure she enjoys the time with you. Any new babies out in the fields?

Mim, thanks for the information. Have slowed down on trips to Golden Corral. Ours went up on price. I enjoy the wk-end buffets.

    Hi to all lurkers.

    Max

  • Afternoon, thought I would stop in and see if anyone around.

Started out a beautiful morning, looks like we may get one of those afternoon FL. showers now. Will never get use to the flashing lightning here.

Mim only thing I can remember about Zionsville was the one brick street, and how slick it got when it rained. Always going to check with historians about why so many towns in IN. always had at least one brick street. Our town had one off of Main ST. that ran to the school. Always wondered what it sounded like when the horse and buggys went down it.

Cedar, Red Wing is out of MN. and old company, most people do think of their famous crocks. This set of dishes came out in mid-fifties. It is a closed auction so will post # as hard to tell you what they look like. #330627624858.

Shopping alert...Oreos on sale this wk.

Judy, still doing your early walks?

    Max

  • Good morning...another sleepless night.

Finally bought a small rug shampooer yesterday. Now to try it out.

Dori, had to think about those things you thought might be coasters. Could they be the old fashioned butter chips/pats? If so, there are many collectors for them. Never seen military ones, maybe officer's quarters used them.

Mim thought about you yesterday. Our GW is in the process of a huge remodeling job. Have gone to so many shelves for books. Prices way to high, so wonder how long they will sit there. Said something to checker and she said they received so many book donations.

I am becoming dish poor. Bought a 46 pc. set of Red Wing dishes yesterday. So many neat side dishes and all have lids and not one chip.

Looks like fall is arriving in many parts of the country. Has been very muggy down here for past few days.

Hello to all...waiting to "see" more posting.

    Max

  • Good morning ladies.

Dori I actually found 3 small side platters by Shenango this past wk. They were bundled together and had to buy all three, in a pattern I am hunting for. Also ashtray with yacht club logo. so a good wk. digging around.

Mim this is just a thought...have you considered having a small book sale at the house. Nice sunny fall day and set them up on your porch? Price them so people can just pick them out and pay, might end up being to much work?

See Oreo coming out with candy corn oreos for Halloween season. DH had to have me buy the chocolate covered ones. I like cookies tht I can dunk in my coffee.

I have read and reread this board, and can not find where Allie has posted. Maybe another board?

Cedar are you busy sewing for those babies?

Today our country is remembering all that gave their lives on 9/11.

    Max

  • Doris Inca ware big restaurantware collectible. Your pattern sounds like it might be Chardon Rose. Their sales people must have gone down every country road hunting little diners. Some of their advertising on dishes sure hard to find, and so much. Shenango was where I started collecting, look for the colored sitting Indian, older ones. they made lots of covered sugar bowls in Inca Wear. I had never seen Weil Ware, looked up some of patterns, pretty neat.

Mim, loved the BB conversation they are having. Glad you are getting a little of that rain. I remember when the river would flood in Indianapolis. I love books and hate to part with some.

Do any of you remember the Omar Bakery trucks that use to come out in the country, door to door? My Mother had a couple of their small pie tins. they had holes punched in them and name Omar stamped on them. this got me started collecting stamped pie tins. Last count I had over 150 of them. they store so well. Problem is there is no reference books to help in pricing. DD won't tell me how much she spent on a Original Frisbee one. Story goes that type tin was actually used to throw like the Frisbee that someone came along and made. Kind of weird what we end up collecting??

Does anyone ever hear from Allie? I see earthquake reports for her part of the country off and on and think about her and her family.

Good to "see" a few of you in here chatting.

    Max

  • Hello to everyone. Wanted to tell everyone to be careful out there and have a safe long wk-end.

So glad to see Isaac has finally spread some of that rain out across the midwest.

Cedar, bet your BP was a little high when you got to the DR. office? All I could think of was that old Ray Stevens song...where he says "Don't Look Ethel"

Mim I'll bet your DH was really glad to see some rain. Watering flowers can get to be old in a hurry.

    Hello to all out there.

Went to GW and found part of a very neat set of dishes by Weil Ware of California.

    Max

  • Hi Judy, Mim, and Helen.

Isaac slide right past us and we actually got very little rain or wind. Did stay close to the house due to tornado warnings. Looks like a real mess for the Gulf coast.

Judy, planning a big Christmas. Will only decorate a couple of trees!!

Mim, glad DH is recovering well, probably all the furkids help. It has been way to hot to enjoy sitting outside down here. Even in the evening. I do go out early and drink my coffee mornings.

Helen I think about selling...then I think about all the hassle. Waiting on the weather to straighten up, would like to have one YS.

Hope to see more of the "old" gang show up.

    Max

  • Hello all. I had kind of given up on checking this board. So good to see some chatting.

Cedar, I often think of you. Maybe just as well you didn't have that big garden this year. You would have been trying to can it all!! Sorry about the health problems. Watch out...those Grands are rough on your back.

Hi drs-t. How has your summer been? Looks like rain showing up here and there, maybe the hot summer spell will finally break.

Hello Helen. I belong to BB, just never post there. Like to keep track of friends, kind of hard to do since eBay shut down the old boards.

We had the scare of possible hurricane, but so far it hasn't happened. We are N. of FT. Myers. It is very dark and bands of rain and wind coming and going. Hope it loses all strength before making landfall.

Hello to all that are out there, hope you drop in. I am still out there trying to find advertising restaurantware. Not much around.

    Max

  • HELLO. Have tried and tried to post here and password refused. Wonder if that is why no one else around???

Mim I see DH had surgery, and he is doing well. Know you have many friends and family to take care of you two.

Still sitting here isn hot and humid FL. One thing about it so many in so many areas of country are joining me in this weather. We are getting rain just about every day. Thought our lawn was a goner, but looks lush now.

Hope everyone pops in and gives a report on how things are going.

    Max

  • Hello to all.

Happy Birthday Allie. People know I always show up for a slice of birthday cake.

Judy, I feel so bad because I didn't get to have a cup of coffee with you when you were in FL. Glad you and Carol had such a good visit.

Jsan, did old Skitter ever come around again after the last bad fight?

Mim, I am just sick when I read about how dry everything is in IN. Friends said corn crops not worth a thing this yr.

Doreen I keep getting e-mail from eBay about clothing buys. I don't think I have ever bought a pc. from eBay. Maybe looked at someone's sales???

Did Cedar change her board name? Where is she??

Miss hearing posts from the Doris-gals.

Yes, we are still sitting in FL.

Hello to all that might be out there lurking.

    Max

  • Hello ladies. I keep checking on everyone.

Mim, we own a house in MI. and one in FL. Seems we are spending more and more time in FL. All our DR. appointments seem to end up down here.

Our yard guy pulled out all the shrubs in the front of house by doors. They just couldn't make it, they had gotten to much frost the last two winters. Now this year I didn't think we were going to get any rain. Last wk. we finally got some. I see shrubs and plants are as expensive as everything else.

Gas was $3.24 today when we filled up. Who knows what it will be tomorrow.

Anyone been out finding any good things to list? I went to our antique mall this afternoon. They seem to get new vendors in and out every month. Nice place, strictly for looking. They did have some very nice depression glass ashtrays. Have gotten to where I pick up ashtrays. Usually like the ones with animals on them. Got one that is a frog standing up holding a drum. He is so bow-legged you have to laugh when you see him.

What was the gals name that they went to Padre Island, TX. in winters? Miss so many that use to post. Wish they would at least come by and tell us Hi.

    Check with everyone this wk.
    Max

  • Good morning, where have all the chatters gone? Looks like most of the chat rooms are not being used much.

Time is really flying by. Here it is Memorial Day wk-end. Still Decoration Day to me. I remember all the family worried the peonies, iris, and snowball bushes would be ready for the bouquets to take to cemetery Must have looked like a bunch of traveling gypsies. Hoes, rakes, shovels, buckets of flowers, containers, and the famous Aunt's picnic baskets.

They are pulling out all shrubs around the house. Seems they just will never make it after past two winters of freezes. Have no idea what to replace them with.

Having new small garage door replaced and they are drilling away. Poor little dog is a nervous wreck.

Hope to see some of the old crowd posting.
    Max

  • Amy, you must have brought me luck, it poured rain for quite awhile before dark last night. May get more later today. Bad news about the house.

Mim, waiting to hear what kind of goodies were passed around at your house for Mother's Day.

Doreen, don't know what Liatris Gay Feathers are, but certainly look beautiful in your pictures.

    Hi to all you lurkers.

    Max

  • Hello to all.

Amy, so glad you turned up again!! Are you in FL. now? I am still in FL. have never seen such dry weather. The rain and storms get close to us and split and go around or something.

Mim, love your Amish/Mormon mixup on book you are reading.

Doreen did you get things straightened out with your buyer?

Dori everyone must be finishing up spring plowing, now they need to get in here and chat.

A nice wk-end to everyone. If I don't get back a Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there. Always admired my big brother, his wife couldn't have children, and he always treated her extra special on Mother's Day.

    Max

  • Hello Mim and Doris. Yes, we should try harder to get this board going again. What happened to our Allie? She must really be busy. Same for Cedar. Bet she is getting that garden ready for a canning season coming up. The guys have left us here all alone! Haven't seen a hay or cow report in a long time.

Found a Buchanan's Black & White scotch whiskey ashtray. Little scotties and in perfect shape. Also found a mug with advertising on it, first in a long time. So been a good week.

We have a church thrift that sells paperbacks for .10. Been finding some interesting reading. Thought I had read all the Lilian Jackson Braun cat books. Guess not, picked up one this week. Also Colin Dexter , Inspector Morse mystery. Use to watch the series on TV.

Mim, hope that gout has calmed down for you. More strict dieting?

Will check to see if anyone has shown up this week. It is so dry down here not sure what a green yard looks like any more.

    Max

  • This is simply not acceptable. Our training wheels are falling off!!!!!

Good morning to all. Haven't been over for quite awhile.

Hate to read all the bad news, but it is also great that eveeryone seems to have things going better for them.

Mim, please keep us posted on the surgery. Cedar, what a chain of events for you. Beachgirl, glad to see you post here.

Weather doing another flip flop just about everywhere. Still down in FL. and we finally got a little rain this wk-end.

Will be heading north in around 4 wks. Have had time to finally get things unpacked down here. Since selling anything on eBay seems to be a thing of the past...not doing much hunting. finding a few things for myself.

    A big hello to all.
    Max

  • Good morning, haven't been in checking on all of you lately.

Mim, you have all of us digging for cookie recipes. Neighbor use to bring over the best molasses cookies with red rasberry jam in centers. Those cone wafer cookies you were talking about my hubby's favorite. We can't find the 3 pak of them here.

All this talk about Indiana in bloom making me so homesick. all we have down here is dry dusty lawns. Need that rain so badly. Seems to go all around us.

I am a basketball nut and I think I have about worn the tuner out going from station to station.

Been finding lots of paperbacks at thrifts but nothing in advertising. Can't remember the last time I have found advertising restaurant ware. Did find some pottery by WJ Gordy a famous GA. potter.

Miss seeing Cedar, Allie, and all the other bunch that use to posst. Anyone ever hear from the nice lady that posted about coins ...Suds??

Judy, did Kisa get some up to date golf gadgets?

Doreen, sounds like you are finding some interesting things out there.

Hope it is a nice Sunday for all, and those storms stay away.

    Max

  • Mim, sometimes I lose a post when I wait to long to post. I do not remember "The Pole" Indianapolis was a big city for us farm kids to visit. We were lucky our school offered trips. Our band traveled often. Sometimes a bus was offered for football games. Always had an away bus for basketball games. Now the kids hang out in malls and stumble around posting on hand held thingies!!

We are breaking records with 88 temps. right now. It is very foggy. Those tornados sure starting early this year. All the schools shut down in DD's area of MI. for the day.

Hi to all out there. I suppose everyone is getting ready for spring cleaning. Cedar you must be one busy lady.

    Max

  • Good morning to all. Starting another week. When a person doesn't get up to go to work, time kind of blurrs!!

Jsan, I got one of those memory foam things, and DH said it was just to hot and made him sweat. So gave it to daughter.

Looks like we are going to have to remove the ruby red grapefruit tree, it had such good grapefruit. Two hard freezes got it. Just never came back.

Will Nov. ever get here, so we can vote?

Mim, we had company this wk-end from IN. and we got to talking about the old Tee Pee restaurant. When we were teens to go to state fair and get to stop at Tee Pee was the greatest thing. We went in and googled it, wonderful how everything at our fingertips any more.

Did lots of thrift and GW shopping last few days. So sad to see so much really good furniture in them. Saw some nice old furniture made out of "WOOD" They had a bedroom dresser with paintings of flowers on long drawers. Darn thing had a mirror or I might have hauled it home. Was faded looking bunches of roses. It was so heavy I couldn't get to the back to see where it might have been made. Wasn't in drawers.

    Hope everyone doing OK.

    Max

  • What?? You haven't been cleaning your mopboards? I find Indiana has some strange word usage, that others sometimes question. Any of you know ladies tht used the words Oh shaw, instead of some form of swear word. Mother had a friend that always used that saying.

Judy-Judy, OK won't bring up that one little question, still 2 left?

Jsan, always love coming down into Cincinnati in the spring. That area always in bloom before rest of Ohio. Always wanted to live there. Love going across to Covington, KY. and taking the trolley sight seeing trip and eating on Ohio riverboat.

Mim, Indianapolis is only city I have ever had DH pull over for me to drive. He never could understand the traffic circle when we use to have to go downtown to get through.

I have some rather strange dust bunnies. My little dog loves paper napkins. I eat at computer desk and leave napkins laying there. He gets up on my desk chair and gets them. Hauls them under bed, where he shreds them. So I have to get out the shop vac.

Doreen I don't even think kids today pay any attention to those neat valentines. Slap something up on FB or e-mail something. See FB causing more and more problems.

Lou, have you moved? Not a peep out of you or our Amy.

Allie I am sure you are out there pulling weeds and shuffling things around.

    Miss all of you.
    Max

  • Good morning. So happy to see some of the old group posting in here.

Allie, that is one dazzling flower. Glad to hear you are feeling better and as busy as usual.

Dori, Don't think my DH could handle a month with a kitchen! Now I just might get use to that.

Doreen, I am all over the place trying to find what you are asking about listing. Is there a picture of "it" or have I totally missed it.

For some unknown reason have been buying sets of dishes. Just found room for the last bunch, so better slow down. Wish I knew more about glass, so much showing up here.

Helen, hope the surgery to chin doing well. Did you get a stitch or two?

Hello to all out there, will be watching for you.
    Max

  • Good morning all, have been checking on everyone...but haven't been posting.

MIM A very Happy Birthday. Knowing what you tell us about your clever family, bet someone will come up with some kind of a treat for your birthday.

Doreen hope your DD will be able to join the traveling golf team.

Lou, did our Amy make it out to your house? You must be getting some of that snow.

Cedar, you are way to quiet.

Judy are you doing a "Swamp People" countdown?

Helen glad the surgery turned out OK. Keep those arm warmers on!

We are back into 80's for a few days, but supposed to cool down a little this wk. end.

Where have all the Doris ladies gone?

GAil I enjoy your GB posts. Cute candy scoop, never thought about them being so old.

    Stop by and say hello.
    Max

  • Good morning to all.

Cedar, so good to see you show up. didn't know you had surgery, hope going well for you. Can't imagine you sitting still very long. Did you get any sewing in for Christmas?

Doris and Mim, glad to hear what you two are up to.

Mim, you are so lucky to have little ones for Christmas. Mine(GD) is 18, time sure flies.

Have been finding a few nice things at GW and other thrifts. Yard sales slowing down, not many flea markets around.

Want to wish all of you a Happy New Year, and hope more can get in to chat this coming year.

    Max

  • Good evening to everyone.

Lou, has Amy made it to your house, yet?

Mim, keep checking to see if you have posted. Hope you had a nice family Christmas.

Allie, love to hear what is going on. Glad you dropped in, we are pretty lonesome here!

Going to get rather cool for this part of FL. Supposed to go down to 47 tonight. Warming back up to daytime 80 by wk-end.

This was really a year for home made fudge. Some people even included the recipe.

    Max

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone out there.

Was so sure someone would show up to share cookies and stories. Guess this has been a busy year, and the board moving seems to have slowed all of us down.

Enjoy the day. Going up to 84 today.

    Max

  • HoHoHo So you want me to work on your car and get paid with cookies. OK Sure good to see you showing up. I'll bet Lou is cooking and baking like a wild woman.

Doreen, hope Mom is still doing well. Always auch a scare.

Judy, see you have trees up and will hve a wonderful time with the little ones Christmas day.

Mim, think of you and hope you are doing better. Know that is one heck of a diet they have put you on.

drs-t yes no one has been in for awhile. did you get any baking done. I finally got all my shopping and shipping done. Have one big batch of cookies to make. I cheated and ordered DH a nice fruitcake. He loves them, use to order them from TX. Someone suggested a new place, and they advertise lots of nuts. Looks good.

Hi to all you busy people out there. Miss seeing your posts.
    Max

  • A early good morning to all. Still waiting to see more posts.

Mim, hope everything going well for you.

Wanted to wish everyone a very nice Thanksgiving and hope everyone enjoys the gathering of friends and families.

drs-t you are a brave woman to have remodeling done on the kitchen. Worst place in the world for that. When freezer went down couple of wks. ago, created a total panic. At least things got cleaned out and organized. Why do they have to make hamb. buns in 8 packs? I use 2-4 and stick others in freezer, and never thaw them out again. Poor squirrels can only eat so much!

Lou, not many people out there like your friends. Are they in Grand Rapids MI.? Tell Amy a happy Thanksgiving from me.

Knew someone that raised those Llamas, did not know they were such expensive animals.

Judy they are setting up tent at one little mall getting ready to sell live Christmas trees. Will all look like Charlie Brown trees by Christmas!

Hello to all old and new posters and lurkers.

    Max

  • Morning to all on a very windy Sunday morning.

Mim, you take it slow and easy. Bet the cat is happy to have a lap to sit in. Know you have all kinds of help out there, just get that strength back so you can lift that Thanksgiving Day fork!

drs-t, we keep changing plans. Onc couple aren't going to be able to make it and another couple, she went to ER with pneumonia Wed. so don't know about them. On my way to grocery store, hope some small birds still around. Any more cancel, GC here we come!

Kind of late HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOREEN. Glad we added the birthday feature. We use to also have a map showing where everyone was located on the PB. Helped when we were worried about bad storms.

Allie, hope thinga are going well for you and the family. Did you get the trailer back from WI.? I am sure you are pulling out some good recipes for the holidays.

Judy I knew you were our "Christmas Tree" lady. Only thing is...I thought they were little trees, more table top style. No matter how messy I am having a live tree this yr. That is if I can afford one, prices unreal. I use to try to bring in the outside ferns, and ended up with big mess.

Lou are they rotating the Llama pasture, or moved out of your sight? I thought the kids were yours for the keeping! How is our Amy? Sounds like a big move for them.

Talking about outside plants, anyone else gather bittersweet? We had some fence rows that it grew on. Mother warned my Dad every spring what would happen if they got damaged in spring burn or any plowing. Last time I had some bought it in Brown CO.

Does anyone ever hear from the charming lady that lives in CA. and sold coins? Loved reading about her adventures.

Hi to all our missing chatters, and Mim you take special care.

    Max

  • Good morning Mim and anyone else lurking. I am like you, I keep checking and hoping someone has arrived to chat.

Lou, how did those shows go for you? Are you staying home for the holiday, or company coming?

Mim, I saw your conversation about the pie crust usage. Mom always seemed to have lots of "scrap" trimming left. That is how I learned to use a rolling pin making those sugar pies. Once in awhile was allowed to put a spoonful of blackberry jam in a couple.

drs-t my Aunt had a huge Christmas plant that she kept in the front parlour. It was on a special stand and would be full of blooms. Her pride and joy. My Uncle said it was so heavy he never wanted to try and move it.

I hope everyone came out safely after some of this wild weather we have been having. Looks like lots of ski lodges will be open for Thanksgiving.

It cooled off in the night and had a little wind. It had gotten humid again.

We had some new member join, where did they go?

Will check back later. Hope to see some of the old gang and the newer members drop in with a HI.

  • Morning to all. A nice cool night here. When it gets down to 53 at night, it feels cold!

Mim, that raisin toast sounds good. Made raisin french toast last wk. Sure miss seeing the fall colored leaves. Kids and dogs can't pass up piles of leaves.

b4, I am just worried about having to eat all those cookies when traveling with Amy. You are a great guy and Justyn lucky to have you as a Grandparent.

Doreen where do you get the hay for that many horses? They certainly are shiny and beautiful.

drs-t, how is DH doing after the surgery? Still doing those darn drops? Can he notice a big difference?

So many things going on in the news. I stayed up for debate, then got up early to get caught up on all the other events.

My most serious search for advertising is the very old coffee mugs that have a restaurant or RR advertised on the side. My most prized finds are a old mug from dining area of Studebaker. Wabash Banner RR, C&O RR, and a couple of old shipping Great Lakes lines. Last count I had 87 mugs that I hang on to. Once in awhile I will sell one, really hard to find them any more. Will always buy any FK mugs.

DH in kitchen looking for something for breakfast. Better get the skillets out.

    A great day to all.
    Max

  • Hello MD.

b4, have to be careful with Amy. She will drive and make me sit in back seat, and I bet she hasn't gotten the shocks fixed yet, then I will have to eat cookies all the way.

For the money really can't beat the Golden Corral. We like their wk-end breakfast buffet. Love those grits!

They have some thrifts around here that have 50% off days, so looks like Thurs. a shopping day for me.

Lou, are you still counting your money from the bazaar?

    Hi to all.
    Max

  • Hey Amy. Don't forget, you promised you would come down and pick me up on the way to Lou's. Hope not to Kansas.

What happened to my AL.? Was really a good game. So were lots of others yesterday.

Another beautiful day. Glad only 2 clocks to struggle with setting back, have a heck of a time with one on microwave.

    A nice Sunday to all.
    Max

  • B4, you mean I can't see how many trick or treaters you had?? You know I was in GW last wk. and started looking for those Pez. Pez got me looking for the unusual and probably will always do that now. Pulled out a big plastic bag in back of one of my cupboards...full of those little ponies with all different colored manes. Another moment of weakness.

Doris, then you must be about all settled in for winter. Glad things went well for DH with his surgery and I am ssure he will notice a difference in a few days. Darn drops drive a person wild trying to remember them.

Lou, I hope you had a packed crowd. Did the baby and bride move out? I lost track of you for awhile.

Doreen, my DD was always nuts about horses. Has the scars on her shins from barrel bending to prove it. We boarded horse out, and it got expensive, plus she got her drivers license.

Cedar, are you busy sewing? I remember that neat little outfit you made.

Mim, we finally made it over to G. Corral to see that chocolate fountain. We don't like dark chocolate either. Also didn't have any strawberries. Was amazed at the men doing the marshmallows.

Allie, are you still thinking about pulling that trailer back home?

Sarasarah, thinking about you and the cookbooks following you home. I lock my car doors, but things get in some how. Having fun with old Quaker cookbook. Better know what pinches and dabs mean. They don't tell you what order to mix anything. Put it into a hot oven. Love to read old cookbooks. Have another one where women have clipped recipes from newspapers and made little notes on them. Not many newspaapers have a recipe section any more. If they do it is all convenience cooking.

OK I have rambled on long enough. A nice wk-end to all. Going to yell for AL. today.
    Max

  • Morning everyone. See a few more showing up.

My Colts ended up being a joke this yr. so haven't been watching much. Waiting for basketball to start up.

Lou, checking on your soup, figured you were working on the soap. Isn't it time for a big church bazaar? Nice work on that towel. Didn't you make a corn soup?

b4, did you look at Bay listings for those carpenter pencils. Amazing!

Doreen, are those your beautiful horses?

Amy, stop and chat. Miss hearing how things going for you and yours.

d-2, what are you up to now that winter is on its way?

    Hi to others.

    Max

  • Clem, I found some neat carpenters pencils with advertising on them today. About given up on mugs with advertising.

  • Allie, it is great to hear from you. See you are as busy as usual. Better hurry and get that trailer home before serious snowfalls start.

Lou, even if you don't sign your name, would know that purple "ink" anywhere. Been making any good soup lately? Amy doing OK?

Judy found a tiny tree today. Getting all excited about decorating the house. then bad news, DD and family can not get enough time off and make flight connections to come for Christmas. DD works in home health and GD in college.

  • Hi b4, wondered where you have been. Hope son is feeling better. Nothing any worse then problems with teeth.

Mim, you clever lady. I was going around reading all the boards and came across your post about Christmas decorating. I bought a huge bag of jewwlry from GW couple of wks. ago. Lots of glassy necklaces, they will look so good on my little Christmas trees I am collecting. JUDY...why didn't you tell me? LOL

saraSarah, isn't it amazing what we can find to collect? Found this weird gauge with 6 arms, and a porcelain tooth at end of each. Must be for checking color/size for making plates.

Lighterlady, hope you didn't move and end up stuck in the early snowstorm.

Good evening to all out there lurking.
    Max

  • Good morning, need my shoes on to go outside this morning.

Hi Wellie, see you have joined us. Getting all outside work taken care of for winter? Know the wind has been blowing on the other side of the Lake.

Judy, has it started to look a little bit like Christmas at your place?

Mim, you are very nice inviting me to stop for coffee. Seldom go I-65 as I-75 is a direct drive home. This yr. due to illness had to stay yr. round.

SaraSarah, I am always looking for the old Better Homes and Gardens 50's cookbook.
Found a Quaker cookbook, full of handwritten recipes.

Coffee tasting good this morning. always have extra cup or two to share. GF asked me if I didn't have something to drink coffee out of besides the heavy restaurant coffee mugs. She has RA so bad, never thought about it bothering her.

A good day to all, hope more and more show up to chat, and where are the old bunch?

    Max

  • saraSarah, just saw you are friends with Wellie. We live part of time in Petoskey area. Where are you in UP?

  • Welcome Sarah. You popped in while I was typing.
    Max

  • Good morning. a nice sunny day here in FL. Has cooled down a little.

Mim, I always seasoned with salt as I cooked. Stopped that and slowly getting the salty things out of the house. For DH eggs hardest thing, for me potatoes.

Lady, your adventures with your DD sounds like fun. Yes, I was hoping more would show up. Now that the main chat rooms closed, how will anyone know where we are at? Sad after all these yrs.

I haul home anything unusual with advertising on it. Got a real winner this week. A gauge with 6 arms. They do not fold into anything. At the end of each arm is what looks like a porcelain tooth. With a size stamped on gauge arm. Says Naturadent Vacuum , made in Germany, and a Co. name from N.Y. Love trying to find things like this.

Where are/how are our Doris ladies? Hope things going better for Amy and family.

Our winter visitors are starting to show up.

Watching Auction Hunters, looks like a repeat.

Hope to see more posting and best wishes to all.
    Max

  • Good morning, first time I have had a problem logging on. Went back and tried second time, no problem.

Judy, I go to Huntington WVA. to do research at their library on genealogy. I grew up in IN. around the Amish. Our courthouse had hitching posts all along one street and VERY early on Sat. mornings they set up their sales.

Hi Lady. You collect some interesting things. I go into pawn shops, and see lots of table lighters and pocket lighters there. Use to think women looked so classy in those little half moon feather hats. Wish we wore hats again. I collect restaurantware, especially if advertising. Also old coffee mugs, or anything else that follows me home.

Peacocks are beautiful...but oh my when they scream!

to lazy to go and get rid of this dark print.

  • A hello to all on this nice Monday morning. We have had rain off and on, and a little wind. Nothing like the Atlantic side of FL. got.

Mim, always hate the time when soggy leaves lay around, then comes the rain mixed with snow. What a wonderful time you are going to have with the family around. Always some special recipe to haul out.

Doreen, I have heard rumors about you and stopwatches?????

Cedar, how are your sewing projects coming along? Doing any sewing for Christmas?

No mail today. Wonder how many of us make a trip to P.O. Know the malls are having some big sales for Columbus Day.

Be safe and have a good day. Hello to all you lurkers.

    Max

  • Morning, Friday finally arrived. Been out checking the thrifts.

Mim I got stuck in FL. for the summer due to tests they were running on me, and didn't make it back to MI. I am a Hoosier and will always miss that state.

drs-t poor plants and shrubs here in FL. keep on blooming and they look so worn out. Getting dry again, supposed to get rain this wk-end.

Judy, I found another table top Christmas tree this morning. All kinds of little ornaments on it. 14" tall.

So you think you have heard it all?? In Oh. someone broke into a Amish home and cut off the man's beard. Out west they have had a little snowfall. Some resort is making snow trying to be the first resort to open their ski season.

b4, MIL started me on fried pies. They are from Arksnsas, so guess a Southern thing. Very good!!

I see notice has gone out that boards are shutting down on 14th. Waiting to see more sign up over here.

Hi Amy. Take it easy girl.
    Max

  • Good morning, another wk. about over. Another nice day starting out. Calling for a little rain over the wk-end. We can use it again.

Mim, how many points do we get for thinking about house cleaning? I do have this thing about my kitchen counter tops. I clear them before shutting the kitchen down for evening. Only have coffee pot, set of knives, and a fruit bowl sitting out. My computer desk is a total mess. I try to clear things, but always have something to look up.

I am amazed at the thrift stores that have huge areas of Christmas decorations. Also they seem to sell all yr.

We went over to Cracker Barrel the other night. They have so many things for holiday decorating. Have to watch DH around the candy selections. He always sneaks a bag out.

Anyone ever make southern fried pies? DH has a cousin that comes down to visit in winter, and she makes them almost every day for us. I have never tried them. Love the apricot ones. He likes the choc.

Hi to all, hope more show up to chat.

    Max

  • Good afternoon.

Amy, I am glad you came by. How is hubby doing? Know it is a rough time for all of you.

Getting tired of the higher and higher price of everything. I called about having king size bedspread dry cleaned, and they said probably $50. range. Last time it smelled like cleaning fluid for wks. So I washed it on hand wash setting on machine. It was so big had to stuff it in with my feet so door would shut. Have those big Neptune Maytag washer and dryer. In dryer now, and looking good.

Hope everyone having the nice weather that we have down here. Makes me want to get out the recipes and try some new cookies or something. Need to venture out and get new cookie sheets. No more cheap ones, they aren't worth it. I have one and makes baking a tough job. Will use it when I make garlic bread.

Hello to everyone lurking out there.

    Max

  • Hello everyone. Actually a little cooler here today. wonderful weather to sit out and drink coffee.

Mim you have such a relaxing way of telling things. Nothing any prettier then a spider web with dew glistening in the morning sunlight.

drs-t watch those crickets! We rented a house in VA. and it had those horrible plastic curtains. (remember those) Took them all down, folding them so carefully and stored in walk-in closet. When it was time for hubby to get out of service and we were ready to come home, got the curtains out to hang back up. those darn crickets had chewed holes in every fold they could find. Even as cheap as they were, hard to replace on army pay!

Hubby went off to store to get the makings for ham salad. Now I need to assemble the meat grinder. He picked up a stomach bug last couple of days. Now getting hungry.

A nice wk-end to all. See some football games I need to watch.

    Max

  • Good morning, another Friday rolling around. Odd even when retired, I still look forward to Friday. Not that it is any different then the other 6!

Mim, glad you are back on the way to recovery. Hubby's sure can get nervous.

Lou, sorry about the bad news for Amy. Cedar is the showoff getting new floors. Not that I wouldn't like some.

Cedar, did you go with the lighter or old fashioned darker flooring?

Laughing at our local weatherman. Going to have a cold front move in by Sun. Only have high 80's and down to 60's at night. Sure miss the fall colors.

This problem with fruits and vegs. getting serious. I wash our green grapes in soap and water since I found mites all over them. Hubby eats them like popcorn. When I get a salad in restaurant always wonder how well it was washed. Guess I could find something to worry about just about anywhere anymore.

Hi to all. Watch for the folks from old board to post.

    Max

  • Good morning to all.

Mim, hope things going well, and you will feel like chatting soon.

Ginnyrose, yes I see you would have to make quite a drive out of way to casino. We have friends in LaBelle. Thanks for the hoecake site.

We certainly have been getting showers off and on. Grass is growing like spring time.

Went out and found a ashtray from Greenbrier Hotel in WV. C&O RR connection. May be worth a little more then $1. I pd. for it.

Tues. nights are almost stay up all night TV nights. So many of those auctions shows on the same night. Think it was around 2 a.m. when I gave up.

    Hello to all you lurkers.

    Max

  • Good afternoon everyone. Glad to see Lou and Beachgirl made it over.

Mim, will have to look for that program. Hope everything going well for you today. I don' know how they expect us to be friendly when we come in for tests without that morning cup of coffee.

ginnyrose-carol, do you live close to the big potato packing place on 82? We live in Port Charlotte, come over for the casino.

Cedar are you getting hardwood floors?

Actually not a bad day temp. wise out there, looks like showers again today.

Anyone have a recipe for cornmeal pancakes? Found a couple but not quite right. Maybe I am looking for hoecakes. Thin and more crisp.

Have been watching QVC off and on. Christmas decorations starting to show up. House by us been decorated for Halloween for over 2 wks. Family coming for Christmas...so may pull a Judy. A Christmas tree here and there. Picked up couple of unusual metal tabletop ones.

Hi to all out there. Wonderful to see more and more showing up.

    Max

  • Good afternoon. You have no idea how nervous you are making me talking about sewing. When I try to thread a needle, the thread gets soaking wet from my hands sweating. Home Ec. sewing was a nightmare. We had to make a piece of clothing to wear in a fashion show as part of semester grade. Picked out pencil slim skirt, with 4 darts in front. My downfall. The skirt looked like moths had partied there. I ripped those darts out so many times. Teacher gave me a B, for pattern selection and material. then finished the darts for me!

I think WM had a change of heart about several things in their stores. See they pulled so many brands from shelves and people complained. Now putting them back. Also talking of layaway. The layaway seems to be one reason our KMart keeps open.

drs-t is your hubby having trouble with eyes, or just not feeling well?

Today was my last DR. check. He told me he hadn't said anything to me, because I didn't need to be further stressed. Ran blood tests every wk. was afraid the infection would get into my bloodsstream.

Having salmon patties for dinner. Hubby loves them, darn things stink so bad, going to turn on all the fans.

Watching for folks to come in and chat. Everyone have fun out there.

    Max

  • OH boy. I am waiting not daiting.

    Max

  • Hello to everyone. Hope the cool weather is coming into your area. Still daiting here in FL.

Mim, I think the GW has made many changes since it has own website for selling. Know most of the nice things go into that area now. They are a business like anything else, and have to make money. I always donate to SA, they seem to be more active with local needs.

Hi md4, sweet corn has been so good this summer. Even fried some. Of course I will fry anything!

jsan, hope I can remember all the things for saving the parents and g.parents told me. Looks like we are going to need it this coming winter. Not sure how much more my pantry can hold. Every time the grocery stores have a sale, I drag it home!

drs-t Hope everything went well with surgery for your DH. I didn't like the idea of cataract surgery, then wondered why I waited after having it done.

DD got out the heavy quilts couple of nights ago. N. MI. got down to 27. white stuff not far away.

Cedar are you still retired, or have they talked you into coming back to school part time?

Miss so many from old chat room, maybe they will show up.

    Max

  • Good morning, I am really enjoying all the great stories about sales.

When I first got interested in eBay, some of my friends were terribly upset that I actually hunted for and spent time in GW stores. Plus I went into pawn shops all by myself. Guess who I find digging around in some of those places now?

Waiting for this year to settle down weather wise. Certainly hope we are going to have a mild winter. So many poor souls out there without roofs over their heads.

Boy, I sound like a gloomy gus.

Hi to all and hope more start to show up over here.
    Max

  • Good morning, checking in to see if Cedar and some of you ar behaving.

Hi there Paula. my last dog loved his Taco Bell dog. Carried it everywhere.

Dick that is a great pc. of beer advertising.

drs, I have to make a tour of local antique malls about once a month. Almost happy they are so expensive,,,that way I don't drag anything else home.

As some of you may know, I love to collect restaurant ware. something about those little serving dishes and platters that I can't pass up. Love those little side platters like F. fries were served on. I use them every day.

Jsan, hard to believe I finished last of medication this past wk. Feeling really good. Not going to make the trip north, family all coming for Christmas.

See we are missing several of our friends from the old board...unless they changed their names on me.

Mim, I try never to pass on where I have seen people chatting on new boards, but knew you were OK.

Not even going to comment on this strange weather. Looks like another round moving in on many of us. Be safe and hope to see more posting.
    Max

  • Good evening, so good to see more and more showing up.

Jsan, thanks for remembering...now you know I am at least 10 yrs. younger then MD.

Cedar, you had better hide that okra, or I will be down picking it. Love it fried, or in veg. soup. Sonny's also has very good okra.

Mim, I go to auctions and get so excited when I can haul home box lots. Found some great thimbles one time. Never know what might be thrown in the bottom of those boxes.

Think we must have gotten over 2" of rain earlier. Storm moving out now.
    Max

  • Hey baglady/Cedar, wondered when you would pop in. We can have fun here. Canning all finished for season?

  • Good morning.

Mim, so nice to have you here. I always enjoy hearing about your adventures. No matter where I go, I miss Indiana.

Check every day to see if any from the old chat room has arrived.

  • A good Saturday morning. We had some storms that were pretty loud in the night. Looks like another rainy day. YS signs everywhere. Don't know how long they will be out.

Ginnyrose and bamaj, was trying to figure out where I had seen your posts. I lurk on Antique board once in awhile. Seeing if Plume is behaving herself.

Gas finally coming down. I did my wkly. grocery shopping yesterday. Odd...they have it all ready for me at $100.+ no matter how carefully I shop.

Looking forward to seeing some more of the group join us here.

    Max

  • Hi Judy. Still sitting in FL. Unable to go back north, can't seem to get this infection cleared up. So good to see Allie. Now watching for Cedar and all the rest.

  • Hello hello.
So glad to see this chat room is alive and well.
    Thank you Curt.
